# Key Lime Pie’s totally tropical taste
Yesterday saw the launch of brand new London-based design collective Key
Lime Pie's first official range of bespoke garments, handmade with love.
Co-founders Roya Fraser and Esther Lawrence successfully manage to fuse
a myriad of different influences to form an utterly unique blend of
explosive, bold patterns that have a gentler, more sensuous side to
them. Team that with precision detailing (see Melon Tang's miniature
food charms), practical ideas ('come rain or shine' reversible
waterproof capes) and a sprinkling of humour (cute wordplay that runs
thoughout)...this is one tribal tea party not to be missed.
Originating from a shared love for "making, baking, and a bit of booty
shaking", KLP's look can best be described as traditional English with a
tropical edge. Creating both niche and basic items, the collection makes
for the perfect festival attire. Their blog (that has been rising like
homebaked bread over the past year amongst London and Brighton's
fun-loving social circuits) boasts a fanbase of up-and-coming musicians
and artists alike -- pop singer Marina and the Diamonds, hip hop label
Flash Fry Records, experimental vocalist Jade 'Py' Pybus and kickass
lead girl Frankie Murder of Arp Attack to name a few -- all sporting KLP
designs on shoots and music videos.
Recently interviewed in Spindle magazine, their current inspirations
include "tropical fruit, Brixton market, banana bread and disco" -- all
perfectly demonstated by the 'Cafeteria Nigeria' selection of fabrics in
the form of oversized bows, geometric patterned tees, fairytale capes
and even homeware. Catch KLP'S exclusive collection at The Secret Garden
Party this weekend, where I'm sure they will sell like hot cakes (or
pies..) and visit their blog http://www.key-lime-pie.co.uk/ to see how
the Key Lime Pie recipe is one for success.
