# DMY: Five days – and over 500 designers!
It's that time of year again: for the next five days, Berlin, or rather
the former Tempelhof Airport, will become a hotbed of contemporary
product design, when the international design festival
DMY sets up camp in the city: in the airport's hangar to be
precise. On the huge exhibition area covering 11,000 m², it will be
possible to meet renowned designers and manufacturers as well as
newcomers to the scene. As well as the artists, during the past few
years, the many design-savvy visitors have helped the festival grow into
a network platform and a source of innovative ideas.
The inspiring line-up of supporting events, comprising talk panels,
symposiums and workshops, also has a lot to offer this year. For
example, the **[Hartz IV apartment][1]** (Hartz IV the name of the
German welfare benefits system) by Le Van Bo exhibited in the betahaus
has already attracted a lot of press. The apartment is stylishly
furnished with up-to-date and inexpensive DIY pieces.
The DMY Award will also be presented once again this year. Ten pieces of
outstanding work have already been nominated, representing different
approaches and attitudes within the contemporary product design sector.
And at this year's festivals the focus is on Finland -- rare insights
into Finnish living spaces, design aesthetic and practices will be
presented in an extra show.
And if you're still standing, you can also enjoy the festival's
nocturnal line-up: for example at the Opening Party tonight at the
airport itself or the Closing Party on 4 June 2011 at the [Picknick][2]
club.
Opening times: Wednesday, 1 June 2011 (full day) -- Sunday, 5 June 2011
(full day)
